John was a Skype for Business MVP (2015-2018) - before that, a Lync Server MVP (2010-2014). I have a variety of certifications dating back to Novell CNE and working up through the Microsoft MCP stack to MCITP multiple times. FWIW, I am on my third career - ex-USMC, retired US Army. Lync Install error

While doing the “Prepare first Standard Edition Server” step, I ran into the following error…

SqlExpressRtc...installing...failure code –2068774911

this turned out to be fixed by going to:

HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

and then delete the following key:

PendingFileRenameOperations

I then rebooted.  I don’t know if that was required.  But my problem was resolved and I was able to move forward.  Kudos to Thomas Foreman for posting this in a forum.

What if you get that error and you don't see that key? Any ideas?
